Charles E. 'Chuck' McGrew

Charles E. McGrew "Chuck" of Richfield, MN passed away peacefully on November 21, 2023 at the age of 70 at NC Little Hospice in Edina with his loving wife Laurie by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Chuck was born on September 2, 1953 in Minneapolis, MN to Robert McGrew and Darlene McGrew. Chuck attended Edina High School, graduating in 1972. Chuck was a great athlete, playing baseball, basketball and football. He played quarterback for the Edina Hornets, helping to lead them to the state championship title with a 10-0 record and was selected quarterback on the All-State team after the season. Chuck attended the University of Minnesota on a football scholarship. After attending the University of Minnesota, he transferred to the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND. Chuck met his wife Laurie in 1995 in the apartment building in which they both lived and they had many wonderful years together. He spent over 40 years as manager of Franklin Nicollet Liquors, retiring in 2021. Chuck also spent many years playing softball with the "Bleacher Bums", a team that was comprised of many high school friends. Chuck loved all things sports and there wasn't a sport that he didn't enjoy. He loved managing his two fantasy football teams each season. Chuck also loved his boat the "Ilmatar" which his dad purchased in the 1970's. The Ilmatar has been moored at the St. Paul Yacht Club for many years and Chuck and Laurie loved spending much of their free time there in the summers hosting family and friends and just hanging out. Chuck was also a voracious reader, often reading two or more books at once. Most of all, he loved his cat Molly and absolutely doted on her, his precious fur baby. Chuck is survived by his wife, Laurie Falla and fur baby Molly of Richfield, MN; his sisters Jaklyn McClendon of Anaheim, CA and Judanna Lynn of Forest Hills, NY; niece Heather Iufer (Mike) of San Deigo, CA; nephew Ian McClendon (Stephanie) of Anaheim, CA; nephew Paxon Flatequal (Britta Nyberg) of Shakopee, MN; niece Clarissa Kruse of Sioux Falls, SD; niece Corina Baray (Dan) of Seattle, WA and niece Sarah Falla of Murrieta, CA. Chuck is also survived by his father-in-law Bruce Falla of Montevideo, MN; brother-in-law Brent Falla (Corazon) of Murrieta, CA and sister-in-law Nikki Flatequal of Brandon, SD along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Robert McGrew and Darlene McGrew; uncle and aunt Jim and Rilla Mae Bartsch; uncle and aunt Donald and Virginnia Johnson and mother-in-law Arlene Nogaj. Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Wayzata Community Church, 125 Wayzata Boulevard East, Wayzata, MN 55391 with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and service at 11:00 a.m. with reception to follow.
