Everett Anderson, a former English teacher at Edina High School, died July 17, 2001, at the age of 75.
Anderson, who was residing in Prescott, Wis., at the time of his death, taught in the Edina school district for 29 years. Also, from 1986 to 1989, he supervised student teachers at St. Olaf and Gustavus Adolphus colleges.
In the mid-1980s, when we could sing every word to a Bruce Springsteen song, somehow Ev made it fun to memorize and recite the words to an ancient bards tune, former student Kim Lord said.
Ev not only knew the name of each of his students, he knew our dreams, our secrets and our crushes, Lord added. He encouraged us to write them all down in the little blue books more traditionally used for essay tests. He would take our blue books home with him on the weekend and come back Monday morning, eyes twinkling, and rearrange the classroom seating chart.
He taught us to believe in our own stories and, in turn, ourselves A great inspiration and friend has left this world, but not without leaving his mark. The scores of student teachers, who were lucky enough to learn from this master, continue to kindle his enthusiasm in classrooms around the country. Each day I do his work with my own children, reading books and telling bedtime stories.
In the late 1990s, Anderson was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer.
He is survived by his wife Marvel, and brother and sister-in-law, Alton Andy and Sarah, of Erhard, Minn.
Memorials are preferred to Gustavus Adolphus College or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
Funeral services were conducted July 20 at First Lutheran Church in Rush City, Minn.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Everett Beauford Anderson, 75, of Prescott, WI, died at his home on Tuesday, July 17, 2001. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in April 1997.
He was born on Aug. 26, 1925 in St. Paul to Frank and Mabel Anderson. Everett grew up in Rush City and graduated from high school there in 1943.
Following graduation, he attended the Minneapolis Business College and was employed in Minneapolis and Los Angeles until 1945. He entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Alaska.
After receiving his honorable discharge from the service, Everett attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English in 1950. He took his first teaching position in Delano.
As a member of the Army Reserve, Everett was called to serve in October 1950 during the Korean Conflict. He had to give up his first teaching job, but when he returned to civilian life in 1952, he held positions in Ogilvie, Pipestone and Moorhead.
In 1956, he became a member of the English department at Edina Morningside High School in Edina. In 1964, he received his Master of Arts degree from the University of Washington. He retired from the Edina School district in 1985.
Educating young people became Everett's passion, and his love of literature was instilled in hundreds of secondary students. Over the years, a number of former students who long remembered him and the impact he had on their lives sent him letters and made personal visits.
In his retirement, Everett continued to enjoy substitute teaching in Edina and Rush City. A highlight for him was to be on the staff of the Departments of Education at St. Olaf College and Gustavus Adolphus College, serving as a supervisor of student teachers from 1986-89.
Everett was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and was proud that he had visited all 50 states and also traveled abroad. His love of geography made him legendary in being able to identify the smallest of towns.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel (Moe) Anderson, whom he married in November 1966, brother and sister-in-law, Alton (Andy) and Sarah Anderson, Erhard, MN; nephew, David and wife, Renee, Anderson of St. Louis Park; nieces, Rebecca Anderson, Los Angeles, CA; and Kay Anderson, Bloomington; and grand niece, Tyra Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service was a 2 p.m. on Friday, July 20 at First Lutheran church in Rush City. The Rev. Laurie O'Shea and the Rev. Kristin Rouner-Jeide officiated.
Dianne Kirchberg was organist.
Honorary casketbearers were Lowell McCarthy, Joan Schultz, Edith Grissinger, Jeffrey Moe and Myron Olson.
Casketbearers were Vernon Jensen, Rolland Ring, Roney Schmidt, Gary Dressig, Robert Schlagel and Alla Johnson.
Burial was at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Rush City.

Mr Anderson was my favorite teacher of all time! He was a classic and loved his literature. He also seemed to love all of us and he knew how to make us feel special and important. I remember him telling me that I was beautiful and was going to get more every year. When you are in high school that means the world to you. I still think of him often which is the best tribute. Rest easy Mr. Anderson. You have left your mark on the world.

WOW, Kurt, did that bring back memories! I didn't think I'd EVER forget, but sadly only good for 2 lines now...but reading the whole intro brought it all right back! Such a wonderful teacher (along with so many others mentioned in this "In Memory" section-thanks again Bruce and all contributors!). Appreciate the "reminiscing", and the reflection that I probably took a lot of these talents for granted until I watched our daughter go through K-12 and TRULY appreciated the special gift and lasting influence of a good teacher! We were blessed to experience Edina schools...
Mr. Anderson was one of my all time favorite teachers as well. He certainly made his classes interesting and literature come alive. I learned so much in his class and had a passion to become a teacher myself. Forever thankful for good teachers! Edina had many.
